The Other Love Of My Life

So yes I adore fashion, and yes it will be the basis of my future career, but if you've been reading me for a while you'll know my other love is food. I absolutely love anything to do with food, or cooking or food shopping or anything like that. It just fascinates me. I love trying international cuisine, and dining at a massive range of restaurants. One of my favourite food things is food markets. There are literally hundreds here in London, but one of the best ones I hadn't had a chance to visit is Borough Market.
I jumped off the tube at London Bridge, after being studying at the library since 11am, and was a bit lost as to where I should go. Following the signs, and then the noise, I found the most amazing market ever. There was just so so much. I wanted to buy so much, but I didn't have any cash with me.

Rebecca Minkoff, Fall 2011: Cool Girl Wearable

Rebecca's theory has always been to dress cool girls, and creates wearable collections that fashionable women want to wear. There was a contrast of textures and volumes in this collection. Leather met wool and fur, denim met suede and wool met satin. The difference in volumes were mainly top heavy; oversized jumpers with skinny leg trousers (in burgundy, following the current 1970's colour palette), and fur shoulder shrugs were teamed with woolen cardigans and flowing maxi skirts. The entire collection followed a relatively muted palette of dark neutrals; blacks, greys, and navy but were often contrasted with a pop of burgundy, cream and whites. The occasional splash of leopard print upped the collection into another realm of grungy glamour, and helped the collection feel young and fresh.
I'm also happy to announce that Minkoff dresses for the season! In her fall collection there is a focus on warmth; big cardigans and jumpers, and there are closed toe shoes for the colder months.

Jason Wu: Masculine Meets Ladylike

using a simple colour palette, Jason Wu was able to explore masculine tailoring for Fall 2011, and give accents of femininity and lady like  ambience to each outfit. A lace shirt is adorned with masculine wide leg trousers, oversized coats and a tiny satin bow to top it off. The pops of colour ranging for brick red to sumptuous violet, naturally lend themselves to sheer shirts, with hints of floral embroidery. The flowing floral appliques are becoming more of a recognizable feature in this collection, as they appear on shirts, coats, skirts and dresses. There is also a play on textures, where feature skirts meet sheer shirts, and featured dresses meet lace shoulders. Jason Wu's girl is very controlled, powerful and a leading light.

Rachel Zoe Fall 2011

If Rachel Zoe's debut collection is anything to go by, the 1970's are definitely here to stay. Wide leg, flared trousers, a mixed palette of browns, burgundy and beige, muted floral prints and jumpsuits. The stylist's debut collection was actually previewed to buyers back in January, due to her close pregnancy. Furs and the female suit also featured in the fall collection, alongside brick red lipstick and highly contoured cheeks. This super wearable collection will appeal to the average baby and the high class Hollywood star.
Despite the obvious 70's references, there was also a sprinkling of 90's minimalism, with sharp suits, white and black colour schemes and basic jewelry.
